Hagafen Cellars Winery is Certified Green!

Napa_Green

Congratulations to Ernie Weir, Aine Kelly and the Hagafen Cellars team for being proclaimed an official Napa Green Certified Winery.

Napa Green is the wine industry's most comprehensive, "best practices" program for land-use and wine production. This voluntary program is focused on independently certified, environmentally sound farming and production methods that meet and exceed more than twenty local, state and federal "best practices." Napa Valley vintners and growers develop farm-specific plans tailored to protect and enhance the ecological quality of the region, or create production facility programs that reduce energy and water use, waste and pollution. The Napa Green programs are open to all Napa County vintners and grape growers.

Rodent Infestation at Kosher Food Warehouse in Queens

The mission of KosherEye is to make our readers aware of trends and developments related to the kosher culinary world. Sometimes this is difficult to report – because the news may not be positive. We feel that we are obligated to share the following story that broke last week about a product many of us have in our pantries - KoJel.

Inspectors from the Food and Drug Administration seized more than $1 million worth of foodstuff after finding widespread rodent infestation in a Ridgewood, Queens warehouse. The company previously had been notified multiple times to correct the situation.

Among other publications, this disturbing story was reported in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal Online and The New York Post. KoJel is manufactured by V.I.P Foods. In addition to KoJel, V. I. P. Foods produces instant pudding, hot chocolate mix and instant noodle soup.

Heering Triple Dream No Bake Dessert

Mixologists use Peter F. Heering liqueurs in many favorite new and classic cocktails including the legendary Singapore Sling, a drink born in 1919 in Singapore's Raffles hotel. Of course, we enjoy sipping Heering liqueurs, (both cherry and coffee flavors), but are also inclined to whip up Heering infused desserts-- like our newest creation, The Triple Dream No Bake Layer Cake. The most difficult part of this dessert is not the creating, but resisting eating seconds. O.K. ... and thirds!

According to June, "There's actually some scientific explanation of why chicken soup has medicinal powers, but for me, it's all about the taste". This outstanding recipe, Matzo Ball Soup by Grandma Martha, was shared by restaurateurs Eric and Bruce Bromberg, and actually IS from their Grandma Martha. The recipe includes her "ethereal matzo balls". Watch the video and get the recipe for authentic, Passover friendly matzoh ball soup.
